UCL: Manchester United, Barcelona draw home ties

Barcelona FC of Spain

The two matches ended 1-1.

Manchester United and Barcelona settled for 1-1 home draws in their first leg UEFA Champions League quarter final matches on Tuesday night.

Playing at Old Trafford, Bayern had to come from behind to force Manchester United to a 1-1 draw.

David Moyes side thought that they had taken the lead just a couple of minutes into the match when Danny Welbeck slotted the ball into the back of the net, but his goal was ruled out for a foul in the build up.

Then it was the turn of Bayern as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery tried unsuccessfully to get the ball behind David de Gea.

With the first half ending goalless, the hosts made a bright start to the second half, and were able to take the lead just before the hour mark when Wayne Rooney's corner fell for Nemanja Vidic to head in.

The German champions quickly regained their composure and pressed for an equaliser which came off the boots of Bastian Schweinsteiger who smashed a volley into the roof of the net, giving the visitors an away goal.

Bayern, however, finished the match with 10 men after Schweinsteiger picked up his second yellow of the night, ruling him out of the second leg along with Javi Martinez.

In the other game it was all even between Barcelona and La Liga rivals, Atletico Madrid, as both finished their game 1-1.
