The governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero, has condemned the attack on three communities in Kaura local government area of the state, leading to the massacre of over 100 people.
The gunmen, who invaded three villages: Ungwar Sankwai, Ungwar Gata and Chenshyi, on Friday night, burnt down houses, shot and used matchetes on anyone who tried to escape.
PREMIUM TIMES spoke to one Bitrus Gaya in Kaduna who fled from one of the attacked villages.
Mr. Gaya said, "I cannot measure the numbers of the attackers because it was night but they were so many and armed with weapons including guns and knives. They burnt our houses and killed even women and children in Unguwar Sankwai village were I came from. My escape was just an act of God, I tell you."
The Police Public Relations Officer, Aminu Lawan, who confirmed the incidenct said police officers had been deployed to the villages while investigations have begun to expose those behind the killings.
Mr. Yero, through his Director, Media and Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki, condemned the attack, describing it as "ungodly and barbaric."
The governor condoled with victims of the attacks and vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.
He also assured the affected communities of his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property of the entire people of the state and pleaded with people of the communities to remain calm and law abiding as security operatives were already on top of the situation.
The governor said, "This ugly situation is unacceptable and we will step up efforts to improve surveillance and curtail future occurrence. We pray that God would expose the people that are causing this problem. We pray that God would touch their hearts to stop such dastardly acts or destroy their evil machinations. We must not despair under this brazen attacks, as a leader, I am not happy with such ugly situations because it is my responsibility to ensure Security and safety for the entire
people of the State."
The three villages Ungwar Sankwai, Ungwar Gata and Chenshyi are now under full patrol of security personnel while many victims that sustained various degree of wounds are receiving treatment in the Kaura and Kafanchan medical centers.
