Three points move Liverpool up into second place in the league.
Liverpool on Sunday stretched their winning streak in the Premier League to five games in a row as they thrashed Manchester United 0-3 at the Old Trafford.
The Reds were clearly the better side in Sunday's outing as they dominated play from the blast of the whistle by referee Mark Clatenburg.
The dominance by the Reds paid off in 34th minute when captain Steven Gerrard calmly slotted in from the penalty spot after Rafael had handled the ball when Luis Suarez tried to knock the ball past him.
Having been booked moments earlier, the Brazilian right-back was fortunate not to be cautioned again and sent off.
Just moments after the restart, Liverpool had their second penalty when Phil Jones barged into Joe Allen. De Gea guessed right this time but could do nothing about Gerrard's penalty which rested again in the net.
Gerrard almost had his hat-trick but flopped the golden opportunity for a memorable day at Old Trafford when he missed the awarded third penalty when Sturridge fell under the challenge of Nemanja Vidic.
There were eyebrows over the call as replay shows Vidic made little or no contact with Sturridge.
Luis Suarez however sealed victory for Liverpool six minutes from time by tucking home from inside the box after he had been denied by a spectacular De Gea save moments earlier.
Three points move Liverpool up into second place, four points shy of league leaders Chelsea but with a game in-hand.
David Moyes's United remain seventh, five points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur, who play Arsenal shortly, in fifth.
