National Conference delegates get vital working documents

The delegates will get Standing Rules on Monday.

The Federal Government on Tuesday gave working documents to all the delegates at the National Conference.

Eight different documents contained in leather bags were given to the conferees after they rose from their plenary session, the first after the conference was inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday.

Among the documents handed over to delegates was the Report of the Political Bureau (1987); Report of the Constitutional Conference (1995); Report of the 2005 National Political Reform Conference (2005); Constitution Review Report (1995); Report of the Presidential Committee on the outstanding issues on the Review of the Constitution, July 2012; Implementation Guide of NPRC 2005; and Policy Recommendations.

The delegates had queued up at the lobby of the Andrews Otutu Obaseki Auditorium, venue of the plenary sessions, to collect the documents contained in boxes.

The 1999 Constitution (Main and Amended) as well as Rules and Procedures of the Conference would be issued to them on Thursday ahead of their resumption on Monday.

Some of the documents are different from the ones given to the delegates to the National Political Reform Conference, NPRC, convened by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005.

Among the documents given to the NPRC delegates were the 1990, 1960, and 1963 Constitutions; Report of the Presidential Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution; a proposal for Draft Electoral Bill, 2004 by the Independent National Electoral Commission; and Report of the Markarfi Committee (that prepared the background paper for the Conference).

Others were Meeting Everyone's NEEDS; Inauguration Address by President Olusegun Obasanjo (February 21, 2005); Report of the Oputa Panel; Vision 2010; and Cookey Commission Report.
