Nigeria Basketball League players to get medical insurance

The 2013/14 league season for male and female basketball is going on.

The Nigerian Basketball League players will be insured to safeguard their career and defend their health, an official has announced.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES in Abuja on Monday, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Tijani Umar, revealed that all the league basketball players will get medical insurance from the start of next season.

"The federation has agreed that it needs to give insurance cover to our players, that we need to safeguard their careers, and we need to defend their health and get them fit every time.

"From next year and for the Zenith Bank and DSTV Leagues, the federation is going to work with the clubs to find an insurer. We need to make sure that even if it is medical insurance that we can get, it will take the weight of the financial cost off the clubs," he concluded.

The 2013/14 league season for male and female basketball is going on at different locations across the country.
