Mr. Parradang said officials present at the recruitment venues conducted themselves properly.
The comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, David Parradang, on Wednesday warned officers of the service to refrain from making unguarded comments over the NIS recruitment disaster.
Mr. Parradang said this at the monthly Comptroller General's parade held at the service Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
The NIS had conducted a shoddy recruitment exercise penultimate Saturday that led to the death of at least 20 persons seeking jobs with the service. The victims were killed and scores more injured in stampedes that occurred in various centres of the recruitment nationwide.
Many Nigerians have since called for the sack of the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and Mr. Parradang.
At the monthly parade, the Comptroller General said efforts are being made to present a comprehensive report to appropriate bodies on the recruitment exercise and the level of involvement of the NIS before, during, and after the incidence.
Mr. Parradang called for a minute silence in honour of the applicants who lost their lives during the recruitment exercise.
Despite participants' testimonies of the shoddy handling of the exercise by officials present, Mr. Parradang commended security and NIS officers who participated in the recruitment exercise. He said they conducted themselves with a high sense of discipline and restraint since they did not shoot despite the rowdy sessions at various locations and being pelted with rocks and other missiles.
He wished the officers who were injured quick recovery.
