The Open Society for West Africa, OSIWA, partnering with PREMIUM TIMES and two other organisations, will on Friday stage a Twitter forum to rally public opinion over Saturday's deadly Immigration recruitment tragedy that has sparked widespread outrage.
The Forum will also discuss the ongoing National Conference in Nigeria.
About 18 job seekers died in stampedes at multiple recruitment centres across the country, prompting calls for the removal of the interior minister, Abba Moro, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, David Parradang.
President Goodluck Jonathan has promised an investigation.
OSIWA said in a statement Tuesday that while the deaths "reflects a growing failure of leadership", the ongoing national conference which kicked off Monday, presents an opportunity for reform.
The Twitter forum, on the hashtag, #NaijaHaardTalk Forum, will galvanize public opinion on the tragedy and the conference on Friday, the group announced.
The #NISstampede, and #NGConfab hashtags will also be used. The event will start at 4 p.m.
The forum will be held in partnership with with Premium Times, Say No Campaign and Brekete Family Radio.
Speakers will include Chidi Odinkalu, the chairman, National Human Rights Commission; Oby Ezekwesili, former education minister and ex-World Bank executive.
Civil rights campaigners, Jibrin Ibrahim and Sampson Itodo, and social media enthusiast, Japheth Omojuwa, will also speak.
"The event is aimed at discussing the implications of these events, bringing out lesson and challenges; and recommendations on necessary steps," OSIWA said in an invitation to speakers.
"The tweet up is part of OSIWA's discussion forum NaijaHaardtalk designed to be a periodic online/offline forum to discuss relevant national issues affecting Nigeria and the sub-region.
The issues will be discussed by the panel of discussants and will be fed into online space through social media platforms.
"With active participation of mainstream media and other CSO partners, this forum promises to be a good platform for articulating a new Nigeria vision," the group said.
