PDP condemns APC's statement as crass and insensitive

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, should be ashamed of itself for seeking to play politics with the unfortunate death of Nigerians at a stampede during the recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service on Saturday.

APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, had earlier on Sunday issued a statement heaping the blame of the incident, that led to the death of over a dozen job seekers, on the PDP-led Federal Government, accusing it of non-performance and ineptitude.

However, his counterpart in the ruling PDP, Olisa Metuh, promptly issued a rejoinder, saying the APC had again shown that it lacked respect for human life.

Mr. Metuh said the APC lacked class, and that its attempt to politicise the unfortunate incident was a clear manifestation of its Janjaweed ideology.

The PDP said it was despicable for the APC to condescend so low as to trivialise and politicise weighty issues bordering on human lives while the families of the deceased were still mourning, all in a bid to score cheap political point.

The PDP described the APC statement as crass, adding that it had further exposed it as a party of insensitive persons blinded by inordinate quest for power.

The ruling party said as a responsive party, it has since Saturday swung into action by charging all relevant agencies to immediately conduct detailed investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the stampede.

It also noted that the Federal Government has already started an immediate response to the incident.

Noting that this was not the time to join issues with the APC which it described as "an ill-bred party which has no regard for human life", the PDP said it would not be distracted by attacks by the APC but would remain committed to curbing unemployment in line with its manifesto and the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
