It could turn out to be one of the biggest rugby storylines of the year – Bakkies Botha is set to retun to Vodacom Super Rugby in May, and it could be just in time to face the Bulls at Loftus.
Toulon confirmed late on Monday that the former Bok lock will return to SA to join up with the DHL Stormers if the French side are knocked out of the Heineken Cup at the quarter- or semifinal stage. They face Leinster at home this Sunday in the quarters, although Botha is still an injury doubt.
The semifinals are then on the weekend of April 26-27.
That being the case, Botha could be back just in time to face his beloved Bulls fans at Loftus on May 10 in what will be an emotional and highly charged return.
This will be seen as quite the scoop for the new Stormers' Director of Rugby Gert Smal, who has obviously had this in the pipeline a little while now seeing as his appointment was only made on Monday.
It will also give Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer the perfect opportunity to see first hand the form of his former Bulls star ahead of the June tests against Wales and Scotland.
Further details are expected to be confirmed on Tuesday.
Bakkies set to face Bulls as a Stormer.
