The Commissioner of Water Resources boasted that Plateau State would soon supply electricity to neighbouring Kaduna and Bauchi States.
The Commissioner for Water Resources in Plateau, Idi Waziri, said on Wednesday that the Plateau State government has in the last six years expended more than N8 billion on water and rural electrification projects.
Mr. Waziri made the disclosure to journalists in Jos on Wednesday, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, press centre during a media conference.
He said over N6 billion had been paid to the contractors handling the projects.
The Commissioner said water pipeline expansion going on in the state was at 78 per cent completion. He asked residents of Jos, the state capital, to be patient as regards water supply; and assured that the ministry would soon provide water for the whole state.
Mr. Waziri said when the pipeline expansion projects are completed, water vendors within the state might go out of business.
While speaking on the allegation that the ministry has been supplying contaminated water to residents of the state, Mr. Waziri said the accusation was false. He said the state had enough water treatment chemicals.
Speaking on the electrification projects, Mr. Waziri said when completed, Plateau State will supply electricity to neighbouring Kaduna and Bauchi States.
